20. Men's Pond's, Hampstead Heath, Hampstead

A wild park of woodlands, excellent views of london and bushes alive with sexual activity, Hampstead Heath is perhaps one of the most notorious gay cruising areas in Europe. Although the last few years has seen a number of attempts by the government to curtail cruising across the capital in general, from trimming bushes to closing parks in the evening, the popular pastime persists. It must be noted that for many cruising isn’t just a response to repression - it fundamentally offers a different sexual experience which many still find appealing.

Since the 1980s the mens pond at Hampstead Heath has developed a reputation of being a ‘gay hot spot’ with the surrounding foliage and male-only nature of the ponds making it the perfect place for men to congregate and search for sex.
